Hearing Impaired (HI) Subtitles
What's it all about?
- Hearing Impaired (HI) subtitles are different from regular subtitles in that they offer additional elements (such as doors slamming, etc).
- HI subtitles are available on M-Net and M-Net Movies 1 and 2 in the Southern African region.

How can I get them?
- The newer decoder models are all compatible with these HI subtitles - you can consult the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) to see if a movie has HI subtitles. If it does you should be able to start using this terrific enhancement immediately and hassle-free; however;
- Not all M-Net/DStv decoders are entirely compatible with the HI subtitles; should you not be able to take advantage of the full HI subtitle experience, then upgrading your decoder is the quickest and easiest solution to getting them

What if I have a new decoder and I’m still encountering problems?
- We apologise. This feature is still in a test phase, but rather than hold back an excellent initiative in order to iron out all the little glitches, M-Net is appealing to the hearing impaired to assist them in ironing out software problems on older decoders.
- Please use the contact details below to let us know - any feedback will assist in developing a more comprehensive service for the hearing impaired.

Which programmes will have the HI subtitles?
- As of Sunday (15 May), M-Net’s regular Sunday Blockbusters will all have HI subtitles, along with any other available movie titles. The (HI) subtitles are available in the Southern African region on M-Net, as well as on M-Net Movies 1 and 2.

How will I know if a movie has HI subtitles?
The synopsis page of the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) will include the words "(HI) Subtitles" for any film enhanced with this additional feature.

How do I access the subtitles?
  1. You can only activate subtitles while viewing a movie which contains Subtitles as announced on air or if was stated on the EPG “i” plate (will be indicated as HI subtitles)
  2. Press The Subtitle button on the remote (square icon with a single line at the bottom)
  3. A menu will be displayed with various icons
  4. Using the up / down arrow keys on your remote, select the “English – Original” option. Press “ok” to confirm.
  5. The menu will exit and subtitles should be displayed IF broadcasted by M-Net
  6. Note you have to select the subtitles again when you change channels and later return to M-Net.
